monitor display settings since restore

Ok, I cut my computer on this AM and it gave me an error and told me to put in windows xp cd and press r to repair. Well it actually did a system restore and I choose for it to back up my data. It has a bunch of folders in the C drive in a folder named my backup. I can not figure out how to restore these. I can get into any data files I need but my thing is now my monitor is all out of wack. Everything looks really small and I have tried changing a bunch of different settings with no luck. Any suggestions? Also I guess I may of had more than one question here... Oops!
