Cannot Find KBDUS.DLL

Hello all,

I've had some problems installing my new HDD (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=164411).

But I've finally decided that I am going to install windows XP. I have the installation disk and I reformatted my new HDD to NTFS (also tried FAT32, didn't work either). Next I told the computer to boot from cd, then I "hit any key to boot from cd", and the Windows XP installation starts. It goes on for a little while until it eventually stops and tells me that it cannot find "Keyboard Layout Library KBDUS.DLL, Shut-down or Restart, Shutdown".

I looked this problem up online and found several sites that all say the same thing "take the drive to another computer and set the 'system', 'everyone', and 'administrator', setting to have full control. I did that except I couldn't get 'administrator' to have full control. Then I took the drive back to my computer and tried again and recieved the same message. Is this possibly because I didn't get 'administrator' to have full control, or am I dealing with an even bigger problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

1. You do not preformat the drive to install XP. Setup will do that for you.

2. You probably have a hardware issue. Test your ram with memtest86+. Test the hard drive with manufacturer's diagnostics.

3. The system bios may be too old to properly support XP.

Ok, first off "you do not preformat..." should I get rid of the partitions I set up then and just let the disk do it?

Next I can't test it because I can't log in to the computer. (I don't have a running O/S on the drive.)

How do I know if my bios is too old?

1. Yes.

2. You don't HAVE to - diagnostics are run from a boot floppy or boot CD.

3. If this is the machine in the other thread, it's too old.
