msconfig in Win NT?

or is it called something else? I tried to run it, but it wasn't found. I'm trying to speed up my work computer (400 MHz Pent. II, 64 MB of ram) but I'm not too familiar with this OS. Its not the fastest PC when trying to run a CAD application...

Any one have any suggestions?

Thanks

There isn't one. You have to manually edit the registry.

With those specs, nothing is going to help you run CAD better. Get a new computer. At the VERY least, put more ram in that one.

Well, it's my computer at work, it's not a simple as just "getting a new one". I'm a co-op, so having one of the lowest positions in the building doesnt help either.

Unfortunatly, we have one of the most ignorant and laziest IT departments here; I was supposed to get one of my co-workers computer's last week (1.3 GHz dell desktop) but it obviously takes them 4 days to reformat a harddrive.

If you show the IT department that attitude, it will be 4 weeks, not 4 days, before you get that computer.

Come on, glc, any department that expects someone to do cad on his current machine must have rocks in their heads.

I don't talk to the IT department. The only people I talk to are the engineers and my supervisor in my department, which are just as apathetic as the people in IT. I am using Microsation V8 (very similar to AutoCAD) 5 out of the 8 hours of my work day.

I didn't start this thread to ask advice as to what I should do about getting a new machine - I already know the answer; slim and none. And I know that anyone that holds the position that I do in that building is pretty much powerless.

But what I did start this thread for was to find help in order to speed up the machine. I do not know Windows NT very well, so I don't know what utilities are available to me. Adding hardware is not really an option but if there are any tools similar to Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter or any other maintanance tools for that matter, I would like to try and utilize them.

Nope, NT has no such utilities.

Crap Cleaner is compatible with NT. You can download Diskeeper Lite to use as a defragger.

Whether you want to hear this or not, I'm going to say it. A person in your position should not be pushing any issues such as this. Do not try to do your own maintenance without permission, if you make one little mistake and have to ask for help, you are going to get slammed. Work the best you can with what you have, I'm not contesting the fact that what they have given you is woefully inadequate. Sorry, but that's the way it is in business. Channel your requests through your supervisor, if he/she could care less, that's the way it is.
