Windows Genuine Advantage & sp2 error

I was running a bad copy of windows xp, and i had sp2 installed. Of course then i got the windows genuine advantage icon in my system tray, so i upgraded, and i now have a genuine copy.
so i can run my system normally now, and get the updates. but..
i still have the WGA icon in my system tray telling me all the time that my system may not be up to date, and i should obtain xp service pack 2.
as far i know i have service pack 2, otherwise certain pieces of software would not work

any ideas? this must be straightforwrd to resolve but i am not finding anything on the microsoft site.
thanks

thanks ezystvy
i had already checked winver, but there is no reference to service packs in there. ALthough i think there should be normally.
win updates is working, but doesn't show service pack 2 as an update i should download.

Does the cd you recently purchased say sp1 or sp2 on it?

XP with no service pack is not supported at Windows Update any more. Download and install SP2 manually. If you don't have broadband, order the free CD from Microsoft.

thanks guys. i have broadband. and windows update notifies me of updates all the time, but doesn't tell me i need sp2.
i don't have the cd yet, it's being posted, but purchased a genuine version and was emailed an activation key.

my winver just tells me i have version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpclient.010817-1148)
no mention of sp1 or 2
i will try the manual download

Control panel, system - general tab - what does it say there? If you have SP1 or SP2 it will say so.

resolved

ok, thanks guys for the help. I went to the link, i had seen this before but hesitated as it said download for Network installation for IT professionals and network developers, but went ahead on your advice, and it downloaded, and worked fine. MY versino now states sp2, the WGA ocon has gone, and everything seems to be working fine

thanks again

best bet now would be to make a slipstreamed cd with all the updates included...

search for "slipstreaming xp".... it is easy to do and takes about 1 hour to do...then next time you reformat (if you do) you wont have to go finding things like that...
