Reactivating Windows XP home
OK this is my problem. I had to get a new Mobo because the tech person where i bought the PC told me i needed a new one. so they sen d me a new one. so i install the new mobo . after I try to log on windows says i need to activate it. So I tried the method by internet it says failed to activate by internet or something. so i call the number give them the installation ID and it says that it doesnt recognize the id as being valid? the only other option its giving me is to reinstall windows? and yes my copy of XP is not fake. If I do have to install windows xp how do I do it?

If the people at Microsoft tell you that the code is invalid it will not make any difference even if you do reinsall Windows...it will still ask you to activate it.
Is the code writen on one of the Genuine Windows stickers...probably stuck to the machine? Or is it a hand written code?

its the one that the activation program tells you to give to the representative(whiih is a automated sysytem) its on the screem that that you choose the country that you are from. its like 8 sets of nubers. i dont know why this is happpening when i had the old Mobo windows booted up without this. i dont know does this make anysense?

After a failed activation, you need to stay on the line and listen. You will be connected with a human being.

The reason it is doing this now is because when you activate windows so many times it will force you to speak to a representative to ensure that you are using a licenced copy.
I've had this recently...I reinstalled the same copy of Windows on my PC, then on my laptop, then back on my PC. The issue is that you can't have the same copy running on both so you need to confirm with Microsoft that software is only being used on a single machine at one time. |

Not necessarily - this happens with name brand computers that were preloaded with XP when you replace the motherboard with one that is not an exact factory replacement. You have to tell an agent that is what you did before getting a reactivation.
