Funny problem with Encarta 2006

I decided to install Microsoft Student with Encarta 2007 but I removed it for various reasons.
I then discovered that my previous install of Encarta 2006 got wiped out.
So I reinstalled Encarta 2006 but now, when I start it, there is a problem.
It shows the splash screen right away but the application takes a good minute or so to open.
Then after I close the application I still need to go to task manger to stop Encarta exe.
Obviously something got changed with the installatiion of Microsoft Student with Encarta 2007 but I have no idea what. Any suggestions how to make my old Encarta 2006 work like it should will be appreciated.

Hi tempus

Might want to run a few malware scans, just to make sure it isn't an unhappy coincidence that something unwanted arrived.

Then - try a few things =
1) Check to see that all the MS Student w/Encarta 2007 entries are gone from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
2) While in Add/Remove, uninstall Encarta 2006 as well.
3) Check that their Program folders no longer show up in C:/Program Files. If they do still show up (and they aren't shared, and their parent programs were already removed from Add/Remove in the Control Panel) delete them.
4) Run a Registry Cleaner (I like to recommend CCleaner - it's free & does a good job --- http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...ml?tag=lst-0-1)
5) Reboot
6) Reinstall Encarta 2006 & test to see if all's well in the encyclopedia world.

If that doesn't work, we can look for other repairs to try.
. . . Gary
