Changing motherboard violate Microsoft's EULA agreement?
Title says it all. Anyways, my computer specs were as followed:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ AM2 2.0GHZ 512KB L2 Cache Corsair Valueselect DDR2533 1GB (2x512MB) WD Caviar SE 80GB 7200RPM Radeon X850 XT PE 256MB PCI-E X16 Motherboard: Asus M2N-E AM2 Nforce 570 (Had to refund it) Now, I have to find a replacement, but I'm a little paranoid that if I change the motherboard, it might violate the hash. The new motherboard has very similar specs, even the same onboard sound. I will not be changing the socket and RAM, or whatever else. Can anyone help me out here? Here's a comparison between the two boards: ABIT Mobo Asus Mobo

You should be OK. At worse, you may have to reactive. If you have problems doing it online, the phone call is usually quick and painless.

Changing the motherboard under the EULA is considered changing the whole machine as the motherboard is considered to be the main component.
What copy of XP have you got now? is it a retail version or a Dell version as in the machines in your signature?

Then you are good to go.
If you are using the original harddrive and don't want to reformat and reinstall you can try and do a repair install of XP. If you are lucky your machine may start and run allowing you to update some of the motherboard drivers BUT the most likely scenario is that it wont start and you will have to do a repair install. All of this becomes hypothetical of course if you do a format and reinstall and as long as you haven't done this too many times you will be able to activate your copy of XP over the internet, however if you do have to phone Microsoft to activate XP, the procedure is easy and painless. |
