Where does my wallpaper go?

Hi all


For years Ive had a problem on different machines and versions of windows where my wallpaper just suddenly decides to go behind the background color.
sometimes it becomes visible when you do a shutdown/restart and sometimes you see it as you boot but then it goes behind the background color and/or just disappears.

I correct the problem every single time by choosing another background and then hope to find the one i liked and change it back to that.

I really want to know why this happens and if there is anything i can do to prevent it.
