Some questions about reinstallation of winxp

I wanted to clarify something that I am forgeting, when we insert WinXP CD in CD-ROM and boot from it, we get 2 options ,(1) start the setup , (2) Recover WinXP.

When we chose the 1st option, it asks us whether we want to install winxp in the same partition where os is already installed or in another partition? When I choose the same partition, then it asks us whether we want to install winxp in the same windows folder where OS files already exists? If we choose yes then it wants us to delete the already existing OS files from that Windows folder, if we delete those files only then it starts the installation process.
I wanted to know is this same as reinstallation or it is called New(Fresh) Installation?

I hope it is not a stupid question but still their is something I am forgeting.

New fresh install is when you format the drive and or delete the partitions so no traces of the previous installation is there.

No, formatting, formats the whole drive, whereas you have simply deleted some files.

Ok Ok, I got it, I have simply deleted the OS files from windows folder, I havent formated the entire partition(drive) ,the program files and documents folder will remain in the partition.
It is only the system files of the OS that will be deleted from windows folder.
So it is reinstallation.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

No, it's not a fresh one. It's an over the top installation .. you install Windows over an existing one, thus you keep all the settings (installed programs, etc. etc.).

No. There is more than just the Windows folder, there is also the MBR (master boot record), and some more files I believe.
Formatting wipes all the data on the hard drive, including the MBR.
