Scandisk is locking my PC :(

I tried to run winxp scandisk (chose to run it and said yes to "run at next start up") then restarted and it just gets half way throug the winxp startup screen and the monitor goes black. The pc stays on but nothing is happening. What should I do?

I also tried booting in safe mode but it will not get that far I just don't get it?

Also, I did install the WD diagnostic software a while ago and ran some of the programs (that was months ago), not sure if that would anything do to with this or not.

PC specs are in my sig.

Set your CDROM to the primary boot device and do a Repair Install from the Windows CD.

Nope, a repair will only correct the problems with XP. Won't touch your personal files or your programs - if done correctly.
