When I shut down, computer restarts!

Hi,

When shutting down on Windows XP Pro SP2, on a fresh installation, no drivers or anything or software loaded, completely clean, my computer just restarts when I try to shut down.

Can't seem to figure out what's causing it.

I previously had installed Win XP Pro, but after installing some software and such, I started to reboot after shutting down, so I wiped the drive with KillDisk, and it's still restarting after I try and shut down.

Again, I have yet to load any drivers of the sort, or any software, so is it possible that there may be a hardware issue going on?

I've cleared the CMOS and loaded optimal settings too.

My system specs are,

Abit AV8
AMD 3800+ X2
nvidia 7800GS agp
120gb seagate hdd
2gb xms corsair
creative audigy 2 zs
550w enermax psu

http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm is not helping me much

Go back into the BIOS and disable everything that will bring your machine out of sleep mode, ie: LAN, Modem and Keyboard etc, check every catergory including the power settings.

Wow, it worked!

Alright, so theres a BIOS setting thats a problem, I disabled,

Resume by Onchip USB
Wake up by PME# of PCI
Onboard Audio
Onboard Lan
Onboard 1394
Onboard USB

I'll try renabling one by one.

Alright, it seems the issue was Wake up by PME# of PCI, thank you rfjvillarosa!

It's up to you but quite honestly you don't need any of them.
If you are using these OK:
Quote:
Onboard Audio
Onboard Lan
Onboard 1394
Onboard USB
But you don't need them to bring your machine out of sleep mode.

Why bother? Unless you want the pc to start from some remote signal, don't bother enabling the "wake on" features. Disabling them is one of the first steps in setting up a new build.
