XP recovery ??? SYSTEM file bad
I have an XP computer that won't boot. It says that
\windows\system32\config\system is corrupted or missing It says to put in the XP CD and press R to bring up the repair console. I do that---and then what? All I get is a DOS prompt. I did check some help files at MS, but it just mentioned the DOS commands that are available, and I don't see how they would help me repair the SYSTEM file. How do you go about repairing a corrupt file? |

thats simplw, just boot up with the cd and do a full install, at one point it will ask you if you want to repair a existing install, click yes.
it will then proceed to reinstall windows and not change any of your files or settings. |

You need to search on your error message, not just do what it tells you on the screen. |
