Monitor-out of range

I know this has something to do with the resolution unsuported by the monitor, but when I try to enter safe mode, it is still out of range-newly installed xp pc. Is there a way to fix this-without using a second monitor?

Check the settings on the monitor itself. There may be an option for detecting the resolution auto or manual or something like that.

How old is the monitor? If it's real old I would just replace it with something newer.

CRT or LCD?

What video card are you using?

15" CRT max resolution at 1024x768. I am not sure how old, but at least 4 years

That should handle XP safe mode no problem. However, try a different monitor and set up Windows for lowest resolution and refresh rate available.
