Hi From Fort Worth Texas!
First, I am running Windows ME on HP Pavilion 665Mhz---512 RAM---20 Gig(Wow!-Don,you have a powerful computer)-If you believe that, then I have some Ocean Front property in Azizona for sale.------------On to problem----When I start Netscape ISP, Pal-Talk automatically starts up with its window popping up.It is my Father that uses all that ----. I went to Start>Run>msconfig>StartUp (tab) and un-checked the box for Pal-talk>press Apply>press OK.I then restart my computer as it says. When I restart my computer and bring on my ISP, there it is again. That box just want stay unchecked. What else can I try. Maybe there is something in the registry I can go into.------So-----there it is you guys--------------------Donald |

Hi rjfvillarosa!
I went to Dads PalTalk site and could not find tools>options tab. I kind'a think I know what you are looking for : Start PalTalk on Start Up --option. I looked for exactly that.----Tonight, when I have more time, I will go to START>RUN>type regedit. I will look at all the 'software' that is listed in each KEY. Just a shot. It wont be till about 1:00AM Central time till I will be on the computer. Also, I might try START>SEARCH(for files and folders)> type in paltalk> CLICK SEARCH DRIVE C and just look around----Thanks Don |

I would not recommend altering the registry unless you have a specific reason to do so, and any mistakes can have any number of negative effects on the computer.
What do you mean by "PalTalk site"? I believe rjfvillarosa wanted you to access the program itself running on your computer, to see if you can turn off the "Start at Startup" option. Good luck!

Hi Kareeser !
I didn't make myself clear and I apologize. It is called "paltalk messenger"that pops up on start up. Dad uses this. There are chat rooms there. I think he is only a member of two. As for as the registry, I can back it up should I do anything there. I also have System Restore if needed. It will be late Wednesday afternoon I will look around there. I just have so many other things I need to do with the computer. I have to share the computer with Dad. If I find the solution, I will come back here a let people know.------Don |

Out of place.
Uncalled for maybe, but any program that won't do what I tell it to I get rid of.
Maybe it's just paranoia. But if the in-program setting won't stop it, and startup items in msconfig won't stop it, it obviously has it's own agenda and/or the programmers don't know what they are doing = more problems later on. To me, there are so many softwares out there that do what I want them to, and they're all doing about the same things; so I just move on. |

PALTALK>-SOLUTION FOUND----Don
Thanks rjfvillarosa !
Thanks Kareeser ! Thanks tetsuo ! Thanks to you all for your replys.I think that replies to a Post Problem should contain " Stabs In The Dark" replies as some are. Some have the exact answer to his or hers problem. As I recommend to all--MAKE A RESTORE POINT 'FIRST,' before trying out things that other suggest that might fix their computer.--------------------------------Anyway, I found a solution to my problem. I tried several things, "Stabs In The Dark" stuff. ---I went again to START>PROGRAMS. I looked at the MANY Programs listed. I have then there laying dormant. They are their when I need them. Some I haven't used in a couple of years. (there are probably just listed but don't exist). Anyway, I saw a program I had forgot about. It was "Start UP Cop ."It is somewhat like msconfig, but I believe it much stronger then that. So , I clicked on that program and it popped up on the screen in its on box. I went down the list and saw Paltalk. I unchecked the box and rebooted. When I started my ISP, it WASN'T THERE ! . Problem, solved !----------As I remember right " Start UP Cop" was a FREE simple download then. I haven't checked to see if it still exists and free. It downloaded in a snap as I remember. I am running Windows ME. If it is still there , don't know of all the OSs it will work on. I do recommend it if it still exists.----It IS MORE powerful then going to the misconfig--and then clicking on the Start Up tab where those programs exist.---- O, they might be other programs like this that have been created since COP is about 4 years back (maybe older). It is simple to use and I will stick with it------------------------Thanks again for your replys.--------------------Don PS: I eat Cotton Candy from a bag while on the computer (bought at Krogers) |
