Limited user accounts not working
Hi all,
My familys having problems logging onto their User accounts in Xp. My account is the only Password protected Admin account that works. The other 3 family members accounts which ive made Limited accounts just lock the whole system up now and it crashes. They only load to show their desktop background and thats it,No start menu or icons. Is this something serius like missing files? As i said my Admin account works fine Any help appreciated |

What happens when you make a new limited account?

If a brand new account has the same problem then something else is going on.
"They only load to show their desktop background and thats it,No start menu or icons." -> For grins, do CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up task manager. Click on File->New Task and type: Explorer |

I don't think it would hurt if you tried the scannow sfc but you will be asked for your xp pro cd.

I'd guess that something on your startup for the limited users is accessing an area that is restricted. Check the startup programs that you've got and make sure that they have adequate user rights for non-admin users. This could even be related to the disks that limited users are allowed to access.

Click the ADVANCED TAB > and the Advanced button for advanced user management. Go to Users > Double click on a particular user from the right. Click the Member of .. and the ADD button. Type Power Users .. click the CHECK NAMES button .. verify that it's fine and click ADD. I did what doctorgonzo said trying boot up in safe mode and scanning for viruses/spyware but they found nothing. Quote:
