Exchange backup failing

i'm trying to backup my exchange server using the NTBackup in windows small business server 2003, but it always finishes with the backup could not completed, see report. here is what the latest report said, when i just tried to backup exchange:

Backup Type: Normal

Backup started on 9/29/2006 at 2:40 PM.
Folder SERVER1\Microsoft Site Replication Service\SRS Storage\SRS MDB
The 'Microsoft Site Replication Service' returned 'Error returned from an ESE function call (d).' from a call to 'HrESEBackupSetup()' additional data '-'The 'Microsoft Site Replication Service' returned 'Functions called in an invalid sequence.' from a call to 'HrESEBackupClose()' additional data '-'
The operation was ended.
Backup completed on 9/29/2006 at 2:40 PM.
Directories: 0
Files: 0
Bytes: 0
Time: 1 second

----------------------

The operation did not successfully complete.

The event ID errors in the event viewer are:

8001
8015
8000 - shows up as an information log not an error

Its shows under those event iD's that it was able to successfully backup the first storage group, but its failing on the microsoft site replication service.

Has anyone seen this problem before, and have the fix? any suggestions on things i can try?
Im backing it up before i install Exchange SP2....... One more thing, if you look at the attachment, i notice that the check box's for microsoft exchange server and server1 are both grayed. is that the way its suppose to be?

It seems to be indicative of a hardware problem or a conflict with another program.
