Is a repair install unavoidable?

Due to my video card burning, I decided to change my mobo, processor, hard drive and video card with a new one. I've already consulted on how to clone my existing HD so I don't have to re install everything all over again and not have to back up all my data again. I use Win XP pro so no activation needed either.

So, anyway, I'm going from an MSI KT3 ultra motherboard to an Asus A8N5X (nvidia chip). I know that a repair install for windows is recommended, but is it unavoidable? Couldn't I just start up my PC with the new mobo in safe mode, uninstall all the drivers from the previous device (network card, sound card, video card, VIA controller software etc.) and then boot up normally and install the new drivers?

If a repair install is a must, what else should I expect to have to re-install besides windows updates? For instance games, applicatios, office, tools such as daemon tools, Norton System works, etc.

Thanks.

Before you change the motherboard go into device manager and change the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to “Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller”. You do this by going to update driver and then selecting “Don’t Search. I will choose the driver to install.” Then select the “Standard….Controller.”

After you have changed the controller, shut down the PC and change the motherboard. You should now be able to boot without the blue screen. Now load the new motherboard drivers including the new IDE controller driver. This is useful for people who use removable drives or people who need to upgrade their motherboard.
