vista rc1 partition problems

I've been trying to install vista on a partition like so:

XP is on my C:
Just a bunch of data is on my W:

I used a free linux program thing to partition part of the W: so now I have 15GB on my V:

Each volume is a "primary."

When installing vista, I have to load a driver for the V: and after that, it says "This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

Bummer...

I don't exactly have a spare drive to install vista, even though I've heard that's the better way to go. Anybody have any suggestions?

dont create a partition with your free linux program, leave it as unallocated space and boot to the vista dvd chosse the advanced option and select the unallocated space to install vista on.

on xp go into computer managment by right clicking my computer and choose manage, then go to disk management, right click on the that new partition you created and choose delete partition

I got it to work by enabling the SATA drive in bios... there was kind of an obscure option. So I just switch it back when I want to load XP.
