Continues to reboot on Win98 Install

Trying to load win98 on a new 80G western digital hard disk. Once the setup program gets to the first restart, a generic screen comes up asking if I want to boot from the cd or hard disk. I select boot from hard disk and the computer goes back through the same sequence again. Initially the win98 logo screen came up and it said “loading windows for the first time” but that only occurred once… then it went back to reboot again.

-1G Ram
-ATX box with 300w power supply

Remove some of the ram. 98 has a problem with anything over 512Mb unless you do some tweaking. I load 98 with 256Mb installed, make the tweaks and then add the extra ram. If your cpu is over 2.4GHz (or equivalent with AMD) that can be a problem too until the installation is complete. I've had to lower the fsb in the bios to create the image that I'm running a slower cpu until the install is complete. Then raise it back up again. Plus, double check your mobo specs. See if it says it will specifically support 98. Some newer mobo's won't support it any longer.
