Xp Updates

Hello people....just put together a nice AMD system and tried to run XP updates.....Have seen this before when the MS site is down or having difficulties ....I checked and the erroe is last digits are sometjhing like 800efd or close can't get back in to look right now ...was able to run house call and it told me what security issues ther were and was able to download updates one at a time ....the MS error said somethinfg about thew host file but I am not to clear on it ...I was loading AVG anti virus and sync host did pop up in the nividea fire wall and I told it no could that be the source of the problem ??? the MS site said something about static IP address and it needed to be removed ....????

Hi Al,
You can't do anything if the problem is at Microsoft's end.
NVidia's firewall has the reputation for being nothing but trouble.
It was a nice idea, maybe some day they'll get a version that works.
Disable it and uninstll any software you may have installed for it.
For XP updates use the Security Center with the XP firewall enabled and, even if you'll never use it again, use IE.
When you've got the updates you can make what changes you wish but for that first step keep it all Microsoft.

Okay if you guys say so ,although I have never had a problem before with it and I have used it a number of times...I just downloaded some updates on my main for WIN 2K and after the updates my IE doesn't work.............luckly I have a dual boot so I rebooted and went into XP and I am able to get on line but something in those updates just did me in ....Thanks BILL !!!!

Thank you !!! Thank you .....you guys were %100 .... removed it and enabled XP firewall and alls well am down loading updates now...............
