i got my external hard drive.. it has a usb2-usp1 cable on it

will i be able to download my program files and Registry fix program etc to the new drive till i run the 7 disk Xp reload.. and get that going.. this is the 5th time in 3 years i have had to reload XP.. i think i have a bad program.. activeX has a LOT of problems... always has.. it need a registry fix program to run at all.. i believe it was defective and resold to me.. it had someone Else's name in it during one of the re-regesterings.

here is a problem.. after an entire reload, sorry if i dont use the right terminology, of xp there shouldn't be anything left.. but there is .. lots of the icons and partial programs that dont work, i have to reload them.. there are Lots of things left in the XP program, after a complete reload..

i would like to it wiped clean and reloaded in a shop.. but i am going to build a good one as soon as i can.. the preserio isn't worth messing with.. i will loot the hardware drives out of it and recycle the rest...

i figure i only have one shot or maybe 2 .. it clicks and rev's.. clicks and rev's...clicks and rev's
i will run a virus program on it after i download my data out of it.. the external is a SimpleTech high speed usb2, 160GB, transfers at 480 MB/sec plug and play, one click backup-storage sync, it says it will back up an entire PC or selected files

i just want my program files and favorated/documents..game stuff if possible.

If it clicks and revs, there's a good chance the hard drive itself is shot and a reload won't help - if it will even reload.
