long loading time pc
The problem exist since I got this PC from Dell last year. We got a couple same machine in our office and they act the same so I thought it was normal. I don't see any malware or anything, but the loading time after I log in is around 3 minutes, this seems too long. But once it's done, it's fast. Would anyone tell me what would be the problem? Or is it normal for Dell machines? I had a hijackthis log. Should I post the log here? Safe to post here?
Thanks. |

You can post the log if you want, unless you decide not to, but I doubt it has any identifiable information.
Computers slow down for a multitude of reasons, and even more so when the computers are internet capable. Are your Dells connected to the internet? If so, some spyware may be slowing them down. |

Logging into a network takes longer than booting up a stand alone machine. If you're using shared printers that can increase the time too.

And being Dells there are probably a lot on unneeded applications loading at startup which will slow it down too. You probably have several programs calling home for updates that you could disable to help speed up the process.

Well, even my dell system takes little long to load completely but it doesnot take 3 minutes to load.
As far as I know , the system slows down and takes longer time to load because of many reasons. Their could be a spyware, virus or malware in your computer if your computer is connected to internet. Or their might be some applications or softwares at startup that might be making your system slower at loading because some applications or softwares take little time to load themselves. If you have macafee anti-virus then this could also be the reason why your system is slowing down because mcafee makes your computer slow when you boot your computer. If you have any anti-virus software then run it to check if their is any anti-virus, or spyware. If your Computer is connected to a network then it will definitely take little time to load completely. Glc, can an hardware issue cause a computer to slow down during loading? |

Sure, but it would probably run slow too.
Next time, please edit your post instead of making a new post. Thank you. |

look at this thread, it will show you how to remove all programs from starting up, then see if it makes a difference. im not saying you should leave it like this, but this will tell you if its all the crap you got loading and running in the background that is slowing your computer down at logon or if its just that computer model that runs slow since you said you have two of them and they both do it.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=166965 what model # is this dell? how much memory does it have? what kind of processor is in it? does this problem happen for all users logging in to the computer or just you? create a test account and try logging in to it and see if you get the same 3 minute log in time with the test account as you do with your user account.
