XP login password with PCanywhere problem

Recently, I installed PCanywhere 10.5 on my new computer that is running XP home.
After installation, a login window came up on every boot which it didn't do before. The user was Administrator and I just clicked OK to get to Windows. It is kind of aggravating to have to do that on every boot so I decided to try to stop it. I went to the password control panel by using Start Run and typing "control userpasswords2," and took the check out of the user accounts box that says user must enter a user name and password. I thought that would do the trick. Instead, whenever I booted up, I would still get the login window and then it would not even except clicking OK. It wanted a password and I had none. So I restarted in safe mode, this time setting up a password. Then on boot it would not even accept the password. I don't understand this password business at all. Maybe somebody can explain it.

In the meantime I did a System Restore and I am able to get to Windows by clicking OK on the login but I would still like to have my computer startup without having to prompt the Windows Login that PCanywhere has created. Does anyone have experience with that and the XP password problem?

I don't have experience with PC anywhere but all PC's should be password protected.

It is best to have an administrator password on the pure administrator account and then set up a seperate account for yourself (password protected). This helps to protect your system from attack by forcing anyone trying to log-in to have to crack the password. When you go to log in normal mode, only your account (or any others you have created) will show at the welcome screen.

When booting into safe mode, the actual administrator account will show up. Having this password protected is a good idea as well. When logging in as the administrator, you (in theory) have control over all accounts created in the computer.

go back into control userpasswords2 and click the advanced tab and then click and manage passwords. is there anything in there that pertains to a user account or pc anywhere. if so you could try removing it or supplying the correct password for it and see if that fixes the problem.

i had a similar situations where i was having trouble authenticating to my server. turns out tha for some reason windows saved my domain account credentials in there for some reason but only saved my domain name, server name and my userID but lost my password, and everytime i would open a network resource it would prompt for my username and password but wouldnt take it. so i looked in manage passwords and deleted my user information and im back to normal now. dont' know if that applies to your situation but just something to check out.
