run time errors

Hi gang

I know this is going to cover a wide variety of causes, so I guess I am just looking for the most common.

For some strange reason I started getting this run time error, it seems to pop up when ever, no special thing triggers it. Out side of being on the Internet. I have XP home, SP2, everything up to snuff, have a couple of spyware, virus, etc. Computer seems to working ok, no other symptoms. This is just a pesty little thing. Can some one explain to me in very simple terms what a runtime error is, and what triggers one. If it can be put into simple terms, I know some of this stuff cannot be explained in simple terms.

Thanks...........and take care........Gunny

Runtime errors indicate bugs in the program or problems that the designers had anticipated but could do nothing about. For example, running out of memory will often cause a runtime error.

Are the errors giving you any clues as to what piece of software / program is causing it?

runtime eror

Hi Tom

I am way up on the memory scale so no problem there. I will have to watch the next time one of them jumps up. It usually happens when I am trying to do some thing in hurry. I will pay attention next time. Is there anything special I should be looking for.???? The HD's are clean and defragged all the time.

Thanks.......Gunny

You could have a look at your Event Viewer logs to see if it has any indication in there as to what is causing the errors.

You need to copy down the EXACT wording of the error and note EXACTLY what you are doing when it happens.

run time errors

Well it did it and all I was doing was looking through the news articles on my home page. It was about the 10 funnest video things, like the "dancing baby" and that bad audition on Americam Idol, and it came up.

This is what it said....line 24 error entry_windowin null or not an object. entry_window blur.

I did an ctrl-alt-delete and the first thing on the list was HP ZIPM12.exe-system

Boy I hope you guys can make more sense of this then I can, it also froze my computerm reason for the ctrl-alt-delete. I swear this started right along with my printer problem I was having.

Thanks................Gunny

event viewer can be located by right clicking my computer, choose manage, should be in the system tools section of computer management.

what was the printer problem you were having? if you uninstall your printer, and unplug it from your computer, do you still get the runtime error message? if not then most likely it is caused by your printer software or drivers.

I just got up one day and went to print some thing and neither printer would print any thing. They both were getting power and the USB cords to the computer were ok. So I went into Control panel and looked under printers and scanners, and there was nothing there, neither printer or my scanner. So I basically had to reinstall them. What caused them to disappear is beyond me. They both have been working alright since. One is a HP 7660 and the other is a Epson R200 and the scanner is a Canon lide.

Thanks..............Gunny

run time errors

I did as you suggested, I went into computer management, and went in under the 4 headings, application, IE, security, and system. Every thing looked ok under the top 3 but when I went in under system there were all these red x's error, and under source it was service control manager.

It did not look good, what do you make of that.? I have my HP printer unplugged now and so far I have not had a run time error. I am going to try a few things to see if I can get it to act up.

Thanks.............Gunny

open up one of the system log entry's in the system log folder and either take a screen shot of it by making sure it is the active window then hold down the alt key and press the screen print button one time. then open up the paint program and paste and save it, then upload with your next post. or give us the event id numbers that you see when looking in the system log folder? you can also copy and paste the text in the log entry to your next post so we can help decipher whats going on.

Service 1: "Remote Access Connection Manager", Service 2: "Telephony", error message: "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." - The event occurred after disabling the Telephone service. Re-enable the service to avoid the error.

click start>run>type "services.msc" w/o the quotes and a locate the telephony service.

is there any other errors in the system log folder or are they only for 7001?

Completely uninstall your HP printer - including all value added software it came with such as HP Image Zone, do Crap Cleaner runs till no issues are found, then reinstall it using the latest downloaded driver, not the CD that it came with. Follow the sequence exactly - specifically do NOT connect the USB cable till prompted.

run time errors

Hi ODI and GLC

Sorry about not getting back to you, I have been with out my DSL since 2:00pm Thursday. Been going back and forth with AT&T, the big shots are supposed to be working on my problem.

Any way I went into the services, msc and it only gave me a choice of automatic or disabled, so I set it on the automatic. As far as your question it is only 7001. One question, when you right click on your computer and you click on manage and go into event viewer, system, why is it so far behind mine is showing yesterday 2:00PM. I had my DSL come back for a short time yesterday around 2:00PM, so it shows instead of the little red x's error, right around that time my DSL service came back for a very short time it shows an exclamation mark and information.?

GLC I will do that, I guess you are saying go to the HP site and get the latest drivers, etc.

Thanks...........Gunny

yes set it to autotmatic and start the service if you leave the computer running or just restart you pc and it will automatically start when you reboot.
its behind cause its just reporting certain events, so if your pc is functioning normally then nothing will be displayed. i have seen some system event viewers with stuff showing back 2-3 months ago. the information logs are showing processes that have usually completed normally, those are good to see......the yellow exclamation mark are warnings stated that there is problem that needs your attention, but is not as bad as the red X error logs.

this is microsofts explanation of the system log folder:
System log

The system log contains events logged by Windows XP system components. For example, the failure of a driver or other system component to load during startup is recorded in the system log. The event types logged by system components are predetermined by Windows XP.

yes, go to hp website, and download the latest drivers from there website and install it. chances are the file you download will also include the printer software, so install/launch that downloaded file first and while it is installing eventually it will prompt you to attach the usb cable to the computer so it can detect the printer and install the right drivers for it. DO NOT attach the printer until it prompts you to.

run time error

Hi gang

I sure hope you all have not given up on trying to get rid of this run time error, it is starting to drive me batty. Any idea at all will be appreciated, I kinda thought this would be a hard one to run down. I guess there are so many things that can cause it.

I was thinking of trying the restore feature with XP. The more I think about it I really don't think it would correct it. What are your opinions.? My DSL seems to hanging in there for now, they still have not called me back like they said they would. No surprise there.

Thanks..........Gunny

did you download the latest drivers from HP?

do you have any other software that was installed around the time that this run time error started appearing? just thinking that maybe this is being caused by something besides the printer software like we originally thought

run time error

Hi OBI

Did not think I would find anyone up this late. I cannot think of anything I might have downloaded around that time. I really don't download many things. If I do I put them in a temp folder, see what they are all about and get rid of them usually. I am pretty cautious about downloading things. Too much crap out there to get you into trouble. I will keep on thinking of any thing and go through some of my folders to see if some thing rings the bell.

Would you consider this some sort of a bug.? Or just some thing that got a free ride onto my computer along with some thing else. I did the HP printer thing, deleted all of the stuff associated with it, went to the site and downloaded every thing. The printer seems to be working ok, but it did before too. I will go to a couple of sites that I know the run error always came up and see what happens.

I know this has to be difficult to say the least, so I appreciate your patience and efforts. I will try any least little thing you can think of.

Thanks.........Gunny

you think its late in CA, im in florida a good 3 hrs ahead of ya.....................

its hard to say if its a bug or something crawled into your pc especially when there is no error code to go along with the runtime error.

you made an interesting comment about going to the websites that trigger this. what are the websites that trigger this runtime error? r u using Internet Explorer or firefox? sometimes websites are written with bad HTML code and can cause runtime errors, does it only happen when viewing those websites?

I have been using that new Beta IE7. I started using it long before I started getting the error.

Holy cow it has to be 3:30am where you are at. WOW.

I am still trying to think of anything I might have been fooling around with around the time I started getting the error. Mean time this gives me a good chance to get rid of the crap I find. I was using that new Beta Yahoo mail too, went back to the old e-mail. The other was too slow. I will keep thinking. A person should almost keep a little log of some sort, so they could remember back. You can get some of these things so quick

Take care............Gunny

IE7 beta is full of bugs, i recommend removing it and go back to IE6.
you can also try firefox
www.mozilla.com

here is the latest IE7 RC1, which is a newer release then the beta version you have.
