Disabling Windows XP Notification Area Balloons

I'm sick of XP constantily popping up telling me that my wireless connection is connected all the time, or popping up and telling me my preferred network is not available, etc. im sure there are hundreds of other pesky pop up notifications that get old real quick, so here is a way to disable all of them. found it in a microsoft tech.net article

To Disable The Notification Area Balloon Tips

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
2. Navigate to the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
3. Right-click the right pane, create a new DWORD value, and then name it EnableBalloonTips.
4. Double-click this new entry, and then give it a hexadecimal value of 0.
5. Quit Registry Editor. Log off Windows, and then log back on.

These steps disable all Notification Area balloon tips for this user. There is no way to disable balloon tips for specific programs only.

I thinkl the check box in the pic will turn off the tip you mentioned:

That checkbox will stop the balloon from appearing to tell you that you have limited or no connectivety.

However, I don't think it will stop the bubbles that appear to tell you that you are still connected but the speed of the connection has changed. I also find these a little irritating.

ezystvy - no as stated by tomkear2006 that only turns off the Limited or no connectivity.

i did enter the registry key to disable the ballon notiications, but i still notice it popping things up, according to the article provided by microsoft it should disable all balloon notifications, but i dont believe it is doing that, when my wireless lost connection it still popped up the message stating that my preferred network is not available, and sometimes the window will pop up stating that im connected but my wireless is unsecured. i dont know if that is a problem with my wireless card/software or my AP. i have seen this notification before i entered the registry key to disable balloon notifications.

u would be correct, tweakUI has enable balloon tips option in the taskbar and start menu, just unchecked that one along with "show taskbar notificaiton icons". i will see if this gets rid of those annoying popups

the tweakUI option appears to have disable those annoying balloons. i have two laptops on, one with the tweakUI settings to diable the ballons and the other not to. on the one without the tweak that stupid wireless connection balloon keeps popping up telling me that i have an excellent signal, on my laptop it never does it anymore.
