Smile XP will not boot into windows

Hello all,

I am trying to fix a friends PC who has a bit of problem. When i switch the PC on it comes up with the safe mode list. I have tried all the different options available but it seems to freeze for 1 minute then start booting but very very slowly. Eventually it reaches the screen with the windows logo & the small moving bar then it just reboots again. It is continuous. I have tryed booting with the XP disc but to no avail. Can anyone help me with this problem? Many Thanks Dazza

When I boot from the disc it goes into setup mode - gives the option of installing s/w or repairing an installation. Tried the latter - that made no difference.

back it up and do a clean install and restore all applications. sounds like Master boot record is damaged.

you could run the recovery console from the xp disc and try fixing the MBR before wiping the drive and starting over.

Well you shuold test your memory first and even if Master Boot Record is damaged you can still use Recovery console to fix it!!!
Test your memory first with memtest or the other one: http://www.memtest86.com/ or http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Using recovery console: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art.../wxprcons.html
or repair install: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
