W98 Notebook Defrag

I'm rusty at W98 these days. My friend's notebook has W98se. He defrags and it stops at 32%.
Hard Drive info in My Computer indicates that he has 88% disc space remaining. No viruses - no malware. Everything seems to be working fine. Is it because it just doesn't need defragging?

Try booting to safe mode and running scandisk first. After scan disk runs then defrag while in safe mode.

Hey, even though it's a few days later, thanx! I did that. It's working fine. Scandisk ran out with no errors indicated and defrag shot right thru. Actually, I didn't even do safe mode. He gave me all of those details by phone. Once I got my hands on it, I ran it myself. He must have jiggled something. I'll still do that if he has the problem arise again.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Now, if you want the Defrag to run faster, install the Defrag from ME and rename the 98 defrag as Defrag.old. Still run it in SAFE and it'll be done much quicker.
