IE 7 Question
Hi Gang
What would the proper procedure be to uninstall IE 7 and go back to IE 6.? I am having some strange issues and I want to remove IE 7 just to see if this is causing some of my problems. Do I need to remove IE 7 then install IE 6, or just install IE 6 and it will go over IE 7.? I think it will tell me if I have a newer version of IE, it will not let me install IE 6. So this tells me to uninstall IE 7, then reinstall IE 6. Am I correct.? Thanks and take care.............Gunny |

Yeah, it probably would tell you the existing version is already newer and want you to keep that instead. I found this on Microsoft's website.....sounds easy enough (famous last words, right?

Hi Juppy
Ya I found it under the "updates" I removed it and am back to the old IE 6, now we will see how that goes. I don't know but these beta things never seem to work out right for me, for some reason. This IE 7 beta, and AT&T mail beta, never has worked right. And some people just rave about them, and have no problems, at least they say they don't. And the sad thing is they have these beta versions out for so long, and they don't ever seem to get them right, they just go on and on as beta versions. I never hear anything about the progress of them whether they are improving them or what ever. My opinion is I think they should do this testing before they even put them out as a beta version, to where they have them at least 90% working, not let the people suffer through the development of them, like we are Ginny pigs. Well I appreciate you help with this. I had a pretty good idea of how to do it but just wanted to pick the brains of people that really know how. Now if I could only get this run time error to go away, as easy I might be content for a while. Thanks and take care..........Gunny |

You *ARE* guinea pigs when it comes to beta software. That is the PURPOSE of a beta and why it's offered free. Do not install beta software unless you are willing and prepared to deal with bugs, and to do your part submitting bug reports. Those of you who look at beta as a free ride are taking advantage of the system.

Hi GLC
I never regarded it as a "free ride" I don't understand what you are meaning by this. I look at it as a trial period more or less, to see if what they have is usable, and if I like it. Since there has never been a charge for IE, I don't see where the free ride comes in. If there was a charge for it then I would understand your comment. And I do there questionnaires about the beta versions all the time. I tell it the way it is what I like and dislike about it. I understand my end of the deal. No free ride here. I try not to take advantage of anything, even beta's. I just said I don't understand why there are so many bugs in their beta versions. And the fact that they have the beta versions out for so long, does it really take that long to put out a workable version. And why should they put so much of the development of this product on the public. And I think part of their responsibility to us would be to let us know of any improvements or a time line as to when they would switch from the beta to a full blown versions that works for everyone. I have never seen this, have you.? Thanks and take care>>>>>>>>>>Gunny |

Beta means it is not ready for final release. Even finals have bugs! If they felt it was sufficiently debugged for release, they would release it!
Look how long it's taking to get Vista ready - they started working on it BEFORE XP was released, and that was 5 years ago. |

I'm using Vista, IE7, and Office 2007.
One cause its awesome and two because I want to help out and submit but reports. redvette: I honestly think you should atleast send error reports, and it seems like you do. Betas are released for people to 'try' them, they are used so the bugs can be removed.

Hi All
I think I did say I do the bug reports, and I know this will help them come out with a good version eventually. I do it with the full intent on it being an experimental thing and my reports back about the bugs will help them. And that is true they all have bugs in them no matter if they are beta, or a full blown proven version. Look at windows. ha ha ha I still think that process takes too long to drop the beta and have a good sound version of it. Or maybe they should keep quite about it until they are ready to bring out the final version. I just know I accept the beta's for what they are and their purpose. I don't ask for a free ride, or expect one. I have thought that we are so far advanced in this electronic world, that it just should not take this long to develop a good version of what ever. Thanks and take care.............Gunny |

Hi Gang
I took off every little bit of IE 7 I could find. In "add and remove programs", search, etc. Now I have IE 6 on it. Working ok but I noticed there are a couple of sites that are not working right since I did this. Craigslist for one and a movie title site I some times use. They don't load up right, they just like bring up a few scattered titles, with a lot of the page missing. Every thing seems to be working ok with IE6 the tool bar, etc. Did I get a bummer download. These two sites I am talking about worked ok when I was using IE 7, and before I changed to IE 7 from IE 6. Now they don't. I have tried going to these sites in different ways, through Google, etc. No luck. I have checked all my settings, they seem to be the same. Any ideas.????????? Thanks and take care............Gunny |

The only prob. I have is web pages not saving at times. This happened on IE 6 but I feel not as often. Would welcome observations on this. |
