Ie 7 ???
Downloaded new IE 7. Tried to follow instructions. All I got was system freeze. Rebooted twice. Shutdown & restarted twice. No luck.
What did I do wrong or what am I not doing? After all these years I am still a dummy.

Why did you download it in the first place?

First thing to try is see if it's in add/remove programs. Lacking that, do a system restore back to a date before you tried to install it.

I can report the same. IE 7 seems fine with Vista, though I have seen multiple problems from customers trying to load it on top of XP.

Just to put this in perspective - when IE6 came out, it was just fine on XP - because that's what XP shipped with - but upgrading 98/ME/2K to IE6 was frequently problematic.
One should not attempt doing a MAJOR upgrade such as this (IE is major because it embeds itself really deep in the OS, it's not simply just a web browser) without doing a thorough cleanup of your system first. You need to be malware free, temp and temporary internet files need to be cleaned out, and unnecessary background processes terminated - ESPECIALLY active antivirus, antispyware/malware monitors. Yes, you need to shut down your antivirus during the install. |

Guess I got lucky because I didn't do any of the above. The machine seems to run just as well as before my goof-up. Thanks for the info glc.
