Error when clean install xp

I have used the repair function of xp once and I thought it is time that I clean install xp, the problem is I can install the setup files thru xp, but after restart, I get errors either:
cannot find/file error ntdt.d.ll or hal.dll. The installation files can be installed on another hd and installation can proceed, but that defeats the point of clean install on the same hd. I've figured out that something is wrong with the current windows folder in this setup and I have no way to correct it. Any suggestions on how I can install xp on the same hd? The only way I know how now is to mount the current hd onto an external pc and format it there. Then only mount it back again to the pc.

It might be worth downloading a program such as DBAN...and letting it erase the hard disk. This will completely remove all data from the hard disk instead of simply changing the disks table of contents.

Make sure the hard disk you want to erase is the only one attached to the system at the time because DBAN will erase all disks it detects!

After booting off the XP cd use the delete partition option. Then recreate it and format.

From this problem what I understand is that their is something wrong with (Hardware Abstract Layer) .dll file. Their might be a problem with a hardware driver in your Computer which is causing the installation problem.

Hal(hardware abstract Layer) loads the specific information about your hardwares and drivers.

Remove the overclock and run the system at stock speeds for OS installation.

Remove all but 1 stick of RAM.

Test your RAM with Memtest86+.

Test your hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic utility.

Try another optical drive.

Replace the data cables.

I think he should try www.ewido.net which is a very good online scanning service.
This service not only scans the Hard Drive ,but also the registry ,RAM and cookies.

The HD is fine, I don't know, but I still get that error. I finally mounted it on another pc to format it. Only than can I reinstall xp. BTW, after I installed xp, and when I was making a connection-manually-broadband requires pass login id, the optioin was greyed out. I cannot make an account, which resulting in me having to use the router. Why is this so?

IT, please read posts a little closer - what would an Ewido scan do to help with a WINDOWS INSTALLATION issue?
