Win XP Repair Install. What to expect

I'm replacing my mobo n video crd and I'm aware that I'll have to do a repair install of Win XP (pro so no activation needed). What should I expect afterwards?

I know that all of the win XP updates will be gone as well as all the drivers but will I have to re-install any other software?

Thanks

If you are doing a repair install, most programs and files will not be affected, but it is STILL a good idea to back-up important data, just in case.

I can't remember if you lose windows updates with a repair install. You definitely lose recent Windows updates and updates to your security programs with a sytem restore, but I am not certain if that applies to repair install.

Look at the thread in Tips and Tricks - you may be able to avoid a repair install by doing the IDE controller trick. Uninstall the video drivers too.

I'm afraid its a bit too late for that becuse I no longer have my old mobo with me (sold it) and I imaged my old HD (IDE) to a new one (SATA), therefore I have no way of booting up without the IDE BSOD (I think....)

The HD is partitioned with all of the data (documents, music, etc) en the secondary partition so I think I'm safe there.
