General System Cleanup

All,
Is there a document or thread that would cover general typical system cleanup on an XP Professional System? I am looking for things like temp files, cookies, but not sure where they are. I know there are some files that can just be deleated I am just worried as to which ones to delete. Then I would like to create a weekly cleanup batch file I could run or maybe windows has a utility?

Thanks
Steve

Get CCleaner and run it on your computer. Then read this article.

I do some of those things not because they actually make my computer run better but simply because I'm a tad compulsive.

I have IE set to delete temporary files automatically when I shut the browser.

I collect necessary cookies then set the browser to block cookies and allow session cookies.

I occasionally run MS system cleanup.

If you're looking to eliminate evidence of where you've been surfing, that's a different issue.

Ok so I downloaded it and now it's telling me that I have to remove Macafee software. Not sure I am willing to do that. I was just looking for a list of files windows makes that can be deleted.

Thanks

My system is now booting and going into disk cleanup mode. Why is this and can I stop it from entering this mode?

Thanks

do a google search for a cleanup batch file i was able to find some back when i wanted to do this all the time, then set it up in windows scheduled tasks to automate it or include in your startup folder to have it run each time you start your pc.

if you want to get a little more fancy, then you can open group policy on your pc and put it in computer configuration>windows settings>startup scripts
