bios setup items read only

my pc has
ram =1 gb , gigabyte mobo built in sis video ,winxp sp2, liteon combo drive ,lg cdreader
when i had 80 gb samsung ide hd ,bootin was ok
when replaced hard disk with ide wd 250 gb in my p4 2.4 full cache,it boots on 2nd try.
when turning on ,ist it shows invalid system disk. after resetting ,it boots well .
i have tried formating as active primary in my computer==manage, to no avail

i have noticed that bios setup items are grey ,readonly ,uneditable

kindly help me
