Hi,
Since few days ago I have a problem with the folders. Every time I open the folder after about 30 sec or so it stops responding but other programs that were open are still running normally. Everything disappears from the screen (except my background) and than I have to use Alt+Tab to switch between open programs. I have run anti virus, anti spy, anti anything ….. and did not find a virus or some other weird stuff. I have run as well registry fix and clean etc. and it did fix about 550 different things but my folder is still not fixed. One of my folders where problem started (I think) was the folder where I’ve had lots of games and ISO images etc. and the size was about 27GB ….. But I have deleted the folder and everything what was in it…. but the problem continued. I was also uninstalling lots of old games and software that weren’t in use. Please if anybody could help it would be great. Thank you.

1. Please use the EDIT function instead of posting a reply if you need to make a correction.
2. What version of Windows? |

Have you run a disk check? Or a defrag? Are you using any sort of filesharing program to download or upload from a folder? Is it still running?

Does this folder have video files in it? In my experience especially the .avi's can hang up a folder if not crash explorer entirely.
Turn off the video-preview-in-folder-view function (honestly, I forget what it is called or where to find it. Sorry.). Maybe just change the folder view from thumbnails to list or icons. Oh yeah. I fixed that particular problem by just putting the individual .avi's in individual folders.... Last edited by tetsuo; 10-27-2006 at 12:58 PM. |

Hi
Hi Statica,
Yes I did run disk check and defrag last night and yes I do use sometimes file shearing program but this time (and most of the time) was off. Hi Tetsuo, Yes some of the folders have video files but the ones without any video files will stop responding as well. Folder view is set to icons except my picures folder. This morning I was using one folder for about a minut and than I opened another folder from desktop with some .exe files and one ISO image (tot. size of the folder was about 1.5GB) and it froze right away. So I've had to do CTR+ALt+Del and restart the computer. Thanks I hope we will find the solution for this one

Hmmm...just wondering, since you mentioned games and ISO's, do you use Daemon Tools and have you gotten rid of any mounted images lately?

Is it off entirely (nothing listed running in task manager)?
I don't know the whole run-down on the issue, but I've come across things involving daemon tools freezing up things when one of the folders its been involved with is accessed. What I remember specifically is that if daemon tools had mounted an image in a folder, and then that image was disposed of or altered (?) the folder would freeze up, desktop problems, etc. I would uninstall that and see if there's any change. |

Now I'm back at work but will try what you have suggested. I hope you will stay around in next few days.
Thx all ... |
