start>run>sfc /scannow - need your xp disc to run this
explanation of sfc /scannow http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html since you only have a system restore disc for you dell, running a repair from the disc is not an option. Last edited by Ob1; 10-27-2006 at 04:00 PM. |

well, I recreated all the keys manually and it was a pain in the butt, but I got it done. Thanks for all the advice, I will for sure try the scannow option next time.
Thanks again! |

So your saying that you can run repair's from a dell restore disc? i swear i saw you state on other threads that you cant run repairs with factory restore discs, but i could be wrong, also i think when i have tried to run a repair on restore disc on dell machines the option wasnt there, what can cause the repair option to not be there?
Here's a question, sometimes when you boot to the xp cd you dont have the second repair option, what causes some xp discs to not have the repair option? is it something on the disc, is it tied to SP2 that creates that feature? is it only for xp pro? or is it based on having some system files installed on your pc? just curious, as i have worked on a few machines, and i have seen where there is no repair option when booting to certain xp discs. |

It depends on the exact type of factory restore disks. Even some proprietary disks allow you to do a nondestructive restore.
