Keep getting Print Spooling error
I have XP Pro installed. My printer was working fine then I tried running it through a scanner to my printer connection. Didn't work and now I keep getting this "the service Print Spooler is currently running" What is it and how do I fix it. Windows is such a pain.

I tried that. I don't see it in my Control Panel/Add Romove Programs. In Device Manager is it under Ports Com and LPT?

I downloaded and installed the cleanspl.exe but when I run the command shell it asks me for the computer name. How would I find that? What is the printer spool anyway and why would trying to install a scanner create a problem with it? Thanks.

right click my computer choose properties>click computer name tab
Print spooler aka print que A software program responsible for managing all print jobs currently being sent to the computer printer or print server. The print spooler program may allow a user to delete a print job being processed or otherwise manage the print jobs currently waiting to be printed. im kind of confused about what you said in your initial post, what do you mean "My printer was working fine then I tried running it through a scanner to my printer connection"? |

Sounds like he is using a parallel port scanner.

Yes, both my printer and scanner use the old parallel port connections. I tried routing my printer into the scanner, then the scanner into my parallel port. That's when my printer stopped responding. I figured how to use the cleanspl.exe. Still didn't work. I ran a diagnostic on my parallel and USB ports and they came up fine. It must be some kind of software glitch somewhere. Thanks for you help.

I'd honestly recommend you get a new USB scanner.
