windows xp startup

i recently replaced my motherboard and after installing everything and booting up it reaches a screen which says basicly: Windows did not start correctly last time you operated your computer and give me the option of starting in safe-mode, last known good cofiguration and start windows normally. Choosing any of these options then leads me to a blank screen.
Was wondering if booting from the xp disc, or boot discs would solve this problem? Cant test as i bought the computer with the OS already installed.
Thanks
