New Processor and MOBO and now windows won't boot

Today I upgraded my computer with a Biostar 865gv micro 775 motherboard and a Pentium D processor 930+ 3 ghz. The problem is that it locks up every time it tries to boot windows. Never even get the logo screen. When I try to boot off the windows CD and reinstall it locks up on "setup is now starting windows". Everything else seems fine and my hard drive will boot in my buddies computer. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

that means you can boot up ok, right
you have no problem getting the bios screen , right,

does the new mother baord have built in video ?

you may need to remove all the drivers from the hard drive that is there from the old motherboard, and do a reinstall repair of xp, and run the cd that came with the new motherboard so the new drivers can be installed for all the hardware that is on the new motherboard, you may also need to reinstall any and all updates and service packe you need.

the video drivers may be the main problem.

I formatted the drive but when I try to do a fresh install from the windows cd it still freezes on "Setup now starting windows" at the beginning. Any other ideas, I have no clue what to try. Thanks

I had not formatted the drive in the first post but did it after you posted thinking it would be good to start from scatch. The windows cd is a oem one I purchased a few years back. It does the same thing it did before I formatted. The memory has been tested and I have tried memory from another computer that is working as well. Before I formatted, I tried to boot safe mode and it would start to load and then reboot the system. I'm starting to wonder if this upgrade was a good idea cause I can't figure out the problem. The hard drive booted fine in another computer but the hard drive from that computer does the same thing in locking up when it tries to bott windows, which leads me to believe that it is maybe something other than a software issue but I'm not sure. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks

Just checked your cpu support for that mobo and I may have found the problem. The G series mobo supports the 9xx series Dual Core cpu's but the GV only shows the 8xx series cpu's supported. Might want to check the mobo manual to confirm your cpu support.

I think PR hit the nail on the head. You need to get a different processor or a different motherboard.
