Would it be possable/ legal to....
Use my friends copy of windows XP to install onto one of my computers?

No, Windows XP licenses are only good for one computer at a time. You can only legally install it if he has uninstalled it. You'll need to pick up a copy for around $90.

Now if I'm not mistaken an XP cd is generic and can be put on another machine, but you would have to purchase a legal licence from MS to operate it....Some one correct me if I am wrong....

It's cheaper to just buy a new copy these days.
