XP question

Just out of curiosity really - I was wondering what I could use in XP to identify how many physical memory slots there are on my motherboard, and what was in each. Now I know I could use any number of third party utilities for this (Everest/Sandra etc etc etc), or I could look up the website of the mobo and check there, or go to Crucial.com or any number of other websites, and I could even just open the case and look!

BUT - I wondered if XP was able to do it all by itself. Only using native XP commands/resources and no extra software. Assume I don't have Web access, don't know what the board is and can't take the lid off. And rebooting into the Setup isn't an option. I have to use "native" XP and nothing else.

I don't know if it's really really simple or not - so does anyone know how to do this?

You can only check in XP status of installed memory (XGB installed memory) under System properties and Task Manager, but Windows can't tell you how many physical spaces does your motherboard have!!!
Under task manager you can check how much of that memory is used during different stages (like when you installing something or just listening music etc.)!!!

Sandfly,

Go to http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html & follow the instructions.

Once Belarc is installed look under the header "Memory Modules" & that will tell you how many slots & what ram is installed in your computer.

Now find your computer manual & see what the maximum is, or go to the computer's mfgr website & dig up the info.

Good luck with it,.
