wifi start up on laptop
it seems like wifi starting up with windows makes things kinda slow (i am using windows wifi manager) sometimes the blue lines on the xp screen only roll by 6 times, and other times its over 12
there doesnt seem to be any pattern to it, just random times its slower than other times... is there anything i can do to make sure it starts up as fast as possible? |

Does it matter whether your WiFi antenna is turned on or off? Have you tried disabling the Wifi network device before shutdown and checking to see if you get a fast bootup? Usually means that something is trying to connect to the network at bootup (possibly as a service) and access network resources. Have you checked your startup lists?

Anyone know? I have cable connected to a laptop with wireless turned off, but would like to know how to speed up my own system when I know I don't want a wireless connection during a session. |

Sunset ... it is highly recommended that you start your own thread. A simple antenna on/off would actually delay the system cos instead of finding the preferred network and logging in, the system would now try to searching for active networks before giving up (an antenna being off usually does not turn off the wireless device itself).
However, what is recommended is that you learn to use hardware profiles for your laptop. Have one hardware profile dedicated to having the wifi device DISABLED (in the device manager) and then try to boot up. A good read: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308577 JAYN020 it doesnt sound like NOD searching for the network. Either way, have you tried disabling it? and doing a bootup? |

ok i disabled it, and it still takes a bit to start wifi... the problem is this.. i have a light on my laptop that shows when wifi is being picked up it comes on while windows is still booting... then when i log on to windows it takes a while for the little blinking computer to show up in the system tray and while thats not there the internet wont work

Jay, that's normal. Just let it sit at the login screen for a couple minutes to let all the services start before logging in.
