Problem Booting Windows Xp

The other day i was installing a new harddrive and half way in to the install i got an error then my computer said it needed to be restarted and so i did. Now i cant get past the login screen it hangs at the Windows XP logo. I dont have a recovery disk, I bought the computer used and the guy gave me a burned copy of windows. I tried booting from my orginal harddrive and the one i was trying to install nothing worked. So i tried to boot the windows cd i have all i get is a Caldera DR DOS screen and it says i need to put a command or file name in.

Can't help you install Windows from an illegal burned CD, our forum rules are zero tolerance on piracy. If you get the Caldera DOS screen with it, it's not a proper CD. You need to buy a genuine copy of Windows. You also need to run some hardware diagnostics - something is not right if it won't boot to the original hard drive if it was working when you got the computer.

I used to suffer from windows failing to boot too,but mine was due to motherboard failure.It just happened all of a sudden,so it was a shock to me.Maybe you might want to have your hardwares checked,as suggested by glc.
