Boot Loader Question
I added an extra HDD to my computer for the purpose of adding Vista RC1 and then later Vista RC2. Didn't like either one that much. So I reformatted the HDD. Anyway I am satisfied with my Windows XP Pro for now. So now when my computer is down and I restart it , I have a menu that asks me which OS to load. How can I get rid of this selection and have it only load XP? I hope that I don't have to re-install XP, for that would sure take a long time. Any help would surely be appreciated.

1. Backup your data first
2. Reboot and Boot to your XP CD-ROM 3. Start the Recovery Console 4. Run Fixboot 5. Run fixmbr to reset the master boot record 6. Exit the Recovery Console 7. Reboot 8. To remove the extra entry, edit the boot.ini file to remove the extra entry. 9. Format Your Vista Partition

Will this work even though I have already Re-formated the HDD and there is nothing on it? Thanks OB1 for your quick response.

yes.
Using the fixboot command without any parameters will write a new partition boot sector to the system partition you are logged on to. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true fixmbr http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true back everything up that you want to save before proceeding, incase something goes wrong and makes your remaining partition inaccessible. |

Thank you so very much Ob1, that sure did the trick. Now I don't have to re-install the OS. Thanks again.
