ATI start up process: remove it?

Just did another evaluation of start up processes to improve laptop performance. My laptop has an AII card, and this process seems unnecessary: atiptaxx.exe

I googled is and found a range of recommnedations, mostly to remove it. Do you agree? I could just turn it off and reboot to see what happens, but I really don't like doing that in case it is might impact important features.

1 GB RAM
Win XP Media Center
AMD Turion

You don't have to remove it you can just block it at startup menu by using msconfig!!!

Yes, thanks, that is what I meant to say, and what I did. Not the most technical of all people, but that I do know! My PC abilities have more gaps in them than I care to admit.
