Forced to sign in to windows xp twice
Alright my problem here is that I have to enter my password twice at the windows startup screen to get to the desktop. The first time I enter it it goes to the desktop briefly, then right back to the screen where you enter the password. The second time I enter it, it's fine. Not a huge deal but a little annoying to have to do that every time I turn on the computer. Anyone have a clue about this? I have had the computer for 2 years and this just started happening a couple days ago.
I have an abit AI7 motherboard, ati 9800 pro video card, creative audigy 2zs sound card, maxtor hard drive, antec power supply. Then only thing I can think of is a recent microsoft update that may have caused this, but I was unable to find anything on their site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Try this first: CONTROL PANEL>USER ACCOUNTS>Disable Fast User Switching.

How long is it before your screensaver is set to go on. Its possible that you have it set for less than a minute (im not sure if you can do this tough), and also have it set to ask for password on resume.
So that would mean that when you log it, you don't realize that its just being left idle, and then you have to re-enter you password. Its a long shot, but its my only advice.

No it can't be that either because I don't have my screensaver set to go on at all. Nice idea though.

Having to Log in Twice
It's real odd. My computer just started doing the sasme thing about 2 days ago.
I turn on my computer, enter the password, it goes to the desktop & then right back to the login page again. I then have to log in again & its fine after that. I have had this computer for 4 years & this is the first time this has happened. I have an xp home, 8250 Dell, 3050mgz, 1500 megs ram. My video card is also a ati 9800 pro. Not sure about my motherboard. I do not have internal maxtor hard drives but I do use an external backup maxtor 11. IF someone has an answer, I would really appreciate it! Thanks Rick Last edited by cadmar; 11-28-2006 at 05:33 AM. |

open up your event viewer and look for any flagged events when your PC forces you back to the login page.
