Hard drive active when screensaver activates
been wondering about this for a long time and a friend also asked me the same question,
whenever i leave my PC for 10 minutes or so after the screensaver and sometimes when the monitor goes into standby, the hardrive is active as if searching for something. i dont think its anything suspicious but what is going on in the OS whilst this is happening? Is this common to all windows XP systems? thanks

It could be any number of background services that are running .. could be an antivirus suite that's set to scan when the system is idle or the even the XP Indexing service that usually kicks in when the system is idle... keep in mind that a lot of screensavers do use a fair bit of resources themselves.
