Xbox 360 as extender for MCE
I have several Media Center computers. I'm I bit confused on reading about using the Xbox 360 as a media extender. Does the Xbox connect directly to the TV and grab the video wirelessly from the PC? Or does the Xbox stand by itself and send out video to wireless receivers that are connected to each TV?

you have the xbox connected to your tv, and it can get video/cable/music/photos/etc from a media center pc in your network, whether that be wireless or wired.

The XBox 360 does not connect to cable TV. You need a TV Tuner card for the PC and you can use the Xbox 360 as a media center extender.

I'm still not clear on this from the above replies.
If I want to stream a video from my computer to any (and every) TV in the building, do I need an XBox for every TV? (My MCE computer has a TV Tuner card already.) |

yes, you would need an xbox or some other extender on each tv. i think you can have up to 5 extenders working simultaneously, but it also depends on the specs of your media center and network. remember, too, you won't be able to watch 5 different tv shows simultaneously, either, since you only have one tuner (i think mce supports 2 at most).

Let me start by saying if I'm high jacking this thread I appologize but it was on this exact topic so i saw no point n starting a new one. I have a HP Pavilion DV5225US notebook. It has media center on it. A month n a half ago i purchased my 360 n tried to connect it. Everytime i'm at the end of the install it says
Media Center Extender Setup Setup Error The correct ports cannont be opened The current config of windows firewall is preventing a successful connection to the media center extender. So I then try to go to control panel/security center/windows firewall settings and i get this message Windows Firewall Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service? Yes or No I click yes n then get Windows Firewall Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service. Ok It doesnt tell you what u can do to fix the problem. I've tried to go in safe mode admin to change it but that didnt work. I even called gay HP customer care who had the audacity to try n charge me 70 bucks to fix the problem. I'm like this is a software issue n it was due to the company, its not just my 360 that wont connect, i cant hardwire to any modem and get a connection, i always get a weak or no connection status no matter what i do. This notebook has been doing this since i first got it, id really appriciate someone helping me out with this. I've been on the phone all day with customer care people from different companies and I'm just out of ideas right now.\
