xp upgrade with a restore disk
I want to put xp pro onto my sons pc. Its a new build. Can I use a Win xp pro upgrade and use a win 98 restore disk that came with an old laptop which I have thrown out, as the disk which it will ask for during the instalation ?

do a clean install with xp, and during the install process it will ask you to for a previous version of windows. throw the disc in to verify and continue with the installation.

I don't think an OEM restore cd will qualify as an upgrade option.

A restore disk is not an OS CD and wont work for upgrading to XP. Most restore disks are nothing more than ghosted images that restore the hard drive from an image.
