Question Windows XP Explorer crashed!

When I start my brother in law's computer, the desktop background picture comes up, but no start bar or any program icons. I can hit ctrl+alt+del and get to task manager, and type in "explorer" or "explorer.exe" into a new task, and the start bar will flash for a second and then go away. help!!

Did you try System Restore to roll it back to before the problem started?

If you can find the XP disk you can do a system repair. If you have his product key you can use another disk of the same version of XP and use his product key. You can download "magic Jellybean" to find his product key. Hope this helps.
