Windows XP and Harddrive

Hello. First, my friend's computer cannot load to Windows XP, not even safe mode (it just stopped at around process #15), so I confirmed that the Windows XP is screwed... and need to install XP again...

So I plug that harddrive to my PC and it does show the harddrive, but I am not able to access anything inside their profiles (ie: desktop/favorites...), it just said "access denied".

Is there a way to resolve it?
